We are very proud to announce a unique new venture in the Central Tuli! Together with the Molema Community Trust we are developing, constructing and operating two new camps in this virtual undisturbed wilderness area. The area is no less close to 5000 hectares and offers lions, leopards, cheetah, elephants, eland and the illusive Brown Hyena. On top of this it is home to a large breeding colony of cape vultures and thousands of bee eaters.
Harena River Camp. Harena, what means “our place” in the local dialect, comprises of an affordable tented camp on a unique location on the Limpopo River. Both catered with simple meals as well as for the self-catering guests it offers a unique opportunity to explore the Tuli in an affordable but yet very comfortable way. The tents comprise of a large ‘meru type’ tent overlooking the river, with a bathroom en-suite and are perched under the most magnificent ancient Nyla Berry trees, thus providing you with cooling shade.
The main area offers dining or drinks in a lovely boma around the fire or dining at a new spectacular deck on the (sand) banks of the river. The elephants walk literally underneath you!
This part of the Molema farm is suitable for game drives and walking safaris.
Conservation Initiatives
Conservation tourism is the core of all our operations and is very important to Albert Hartog, founder of The Africa Experience, Albert set up a foundation, TIMBO AFRIKA to fund and support numerous conservation and community projects.
At Koro, TIMBO AFRIKA funds an accredited PhD level field study, focussing on the ecology of leopards and hyenas of the Tuli. This includes the highly endangered Kalahari icon, the brown hyena. We invite our guests to participate in monitoring activities and field observations. Our deep rooted philanthropic and conservation passion has created various community development programs. A ‘bee barrier’ project is underway to help alleviate elephant conflict with local farmers, and wildlife education programs are supported at the Mathathane primary school. Visits to the village sites outside are highly recommended. All tourism profits go directly back to the foundation to be plowed back into the conservation of the area, its cultural heritage and its people

These suggestions bring you to our Koro Camps in Tuli, Botswana and /or to Machangulo in Mozambique but along the routes to get there, we have made a number of selections of beautiful lodges and locations which are worthwhile staying. You can self drive, we can drive you, or you can even opt to use a private charter. Want to make the arrangements yourself? Or rather have that we make them? Everything is possible!
