Endangered Species Introduction

The Africa Experience conservation vision focusses on the re-introduction of once endemic species to the Tuli. The majestic sable antelope as well as both white and black rhinoceros were once found in our area but were decimated by illicit trophy hunting during the last century.

Anti Poaching and Smartparks

Together with the Dutch Smartparks organisation, Timbo is rolling out their wildlife monitoring system. This LoRa system is considered to be the leading state of the art system in not only tracking wildlife in remote and un accessible areas but also the best aid to conduct anti-poaching and fence control. Timbo is the first to roll this out in Botswana in close cooperation with the Department of Wildlife and National Parks. To further assist the Botswana Government in fighting the poaching of rhinos, Timbo has donated an aircraft allowing them to patrol the vast wilderness areas in which these magnificent animals roam.

Sustainable Tourism - CO2 offset program

Sustainable tourism is more than just taking care of your environment. In our philosophy, we create not only an environment for wildlife to thrive, but for our staff and neighboring communities too. Without balance in the activities of all those involved, long-term sustainable tourism is impossible. At our camps we grow our own vegetables, having implemented an advanced water recycling system, using bio-degradable detergents and having used sustainable building materials – we keep our footprint to a minimum. We have rehabilitated large, formerly degraded agricultural areas and are actively working to restore further areas to their original situation. Everyone can, instead of donating money, directly buy a tree from our own tree nursery during their stay at Koro, to offset the CO2 emissions from their trip. The trees are planted by us, together with you, in a small ceremony and geo-tagged. In this way, we rehabilitate plots of land in our reserve which have been affected by erosion or former cattle grazing and at the same time give you an opportunity to keep following the growth of your tree purchase! The money will be used to expand our nursery what is managed by the community, and you therefore also support a job for the nursery gardener by buying trees. We have a selection of indigenous trees; Marula, Camelthorn, Jackalberry, Leadwood and off course Baobab.
